History of the Devil Card
The Devil card's meaning in Tarot has generally been consistent throughout time. The imagery, however, has changed. In early Tarot decks, the Devil was depicted with characteristics including breasts, male genitals, and eyes on his knees. Some cards also show the Devil as a half-man half-goat, based on the satyr. As views of this god changed, however, the Devil took on a more sinister appearance in Tarot.
