Mercury Retrograde

Communication, travel, technology, and commerce have a theme of continuation in 2025 with Mercury’s retrogrades once again occurring in the fire signs, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, as they did in 2024. With 2025 being a year with significant outer planet shifts, Mercury’s visit to the same signs is an opportunity to tie up loose ends related to the themes and topics you experienced in 2024, so that you can move forward in 2025 and beyond with a fresh perspective. There is an energy connected to endings that will be present. You may be required to close a chapter, but not until you finish what you started so that you can “graduate” and move to the next level. The Mercury retrograde that begins in March 2025 will likely be the most intense or impactful one of the year because it coincides with the vernal equinox, Venus retrograde, and Neptune’s shift into Aries. The Mercury retrograde that begins in July will require recalibration, and possibly an energy of mastery and courage, with the fixed energy of Leo present. The last Mercury retrograde of 2025 that begins in November will have an even bigger impact on effective communication and speaking your truth, with Uranus in Gemini, opposite Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius.

Mercury’s journey through the fire signs allows for the reignition of passion in your life. While Mercury retrograde is known to be a time for “re”- redoing, rethinking, reworking, revisiting, etc., the fire element influence will add a flare (pun intended) of action and energy to all three retrograde periods. You may feel inspired to start, or to return to something that will move your life forward in some way, whether it be a project, a learning experience, a relationship, job, or journey. Just remember that starting something completely new during the retrograde period could bring difficulties later on, or the chance of it not lasting as long as you thought it would. This is a great time to revisit an opportunity from the past, because perhaps the timing is better.

Two of the retrograde periods in 2025 that start in March and November, both include Mercury’s ingress back into water signs Pisces and Scorpio. This will add an additional level of emotional attachment to whatever you are working on at the time. The March retrograde period is also significant because it coincides with Venus’ retrograde also in Aries and Pisces (March 1- April 12, 2025), adding relational issues into the mix, whether they be romantic, platonic, or business related. Someone from your past may return, a lingering relationship issue from the past may need to be addressed once and for all, or you may meet someone new who is somehow connected to your past, or someone you already know.

As a reminder, be extra careful when it comes to communication of all forms, over prepare for potential delays if you need to travel while Mercury is retrograde, and anticipate and mitigate technological mishaps if possible.
