The Knight of Wands can symbolize a bold, excited, and passionate kind of person. But did you know that this Tarot card also relates to a specific zodiac sign?
We asked astrologer and Tarot reader Maisy Bristol for her insight on how the Knight of Wands reflects his traits within the zodiac.
According to Bristol, “Knights” in Tarot represent mutable signs and the suit of “Wands” represents fire signs. “Since Sagittarius is the mutable fire sign of the zodiac, this is the zodiac sign for the Knight of Wands,” she says.
The reason? Well, just like Sagittarius, the Knight of Wands is extraordinarily “fiery” and optimistic. “The Knight of Wands can be very engaging,” says Bristol. “He’s just so full of life, energy, vitality, and hope that you can’t help but believe everything he tells you. This kind of person is a master charmer.”
Additionally, Sagittarius doesn’t like to get serious. And similarly, Knight of Wands doesn’t like to either. This card represents someone with big goals and little followthrough.
“The Knight of Wands can be very engaging,” says Bristol. “He’s just so full of life, energy, vitality, and hope that you can’t help but believe everything he tells you. This kind of person is a master charmer.”
Whenever this card appears in a Tarot reading, it can represent someone you know or someone you may run into very soon. One note Bristol mentions is that age and gender are much more fluid in Tarot. Even though the cards are gendered and divided into “young” and “old” court cards, this shouldn’t have an influence on how you read particular people. “Kings can be young and Knights can be old,” she explains, “Kings can be women, and Queens can be men (or however you self-identify).”
Ultimately, the Knight of Wands is indicative of a person who often has big goals or dreams but may, at times, become too much of a dreamer.
If you think about it, Sagittarius is all about dreaming. This sign enjoys expanding, learning, and soaking in all the information it can. But when it comes to getting serious or really following through, Sagittarius has a hard time with that—so does Knight of Wands! In fact, this person will likely avoid every serious conversation you try to have with them, solely because they don’t want to own up to any responsibilities.
In an upright position, the Knight of Wands can indicate a young and encouraged go-getter. Wands typically represent our passions, according to Bristol. So, to see such naive and hopeful energy in the “passion” suit of Tarot just tells us that this person enjoys playing big and being positive.
“The Knight of Wands in an upright position tells you that someone has big dreams and goals. And not only that,” she says, “but they’re prepared to make a plan and execute it with confidence.”
Whenever you see the Knight of Wands in a reversed position, it could suggest that this person is using their skills for the worst. Bristol says this is partially because this court card rules Wands, the suit of dreams, hopes, and thoughts. “This kind of person is very good at locating what other people desire… making it easy for them to target or manipulate those into believing what they want them to believe.”
The reason this might happen is because the Knight of Wands is still quite young in spiritual maturity, she explains. They need time to grow and find respect for others. “Knight of Wands kind of represents a baby,” says Bristol. “This card suggests a personality that is so endearing, but also a bit narcissistic or one-track minded—so, they might require a lot of patience when showing up reversed.”
